"Pantethine, a derivative of vitamin B5, favorably alters total, LDL and non-HDL cholesterol in low to moderate cardiovascular risk subjects eligible for statin therapy: a triple-blined placebo and diet-controlled investigation."

A high level of low-density lipoprotein can be considered a major risk for coronary heart disease. This study sought to examine the effect of pantethine, which the body produces from Vitamin B5, on cardiovascular risk markers.

  • 32 participants participated in this study.
  • Patients took Pantethine(600mg/day from weeks 1 to 8 and 900mg/day from weeks 9 - 16) vs placebo.
  • Results show that patients taking pantethine had a significant decrease in total cholesterol, and 11% decrease in LDL levels from baseline when compared to placebo.
