"Effect of zinc plus multivitamin supplementation on growth in school children"

​

ABSTRACT DATA - Many developing countries lack the resources needed to provide proper nutrition to children. The purpose of this study was to establish if multivitamin supplementation with zinc improves growth in healthy schoolchildren.

  • 70 schoolchildren, ranging from ages 4-13-years, in Thailand participated in the study.
  • Subjects took either chelated zinc with multivitamins(Vitamins: A, D, B1, B2, B6, B12, Nicotinamide) or a placebo once per day, 5 days a week.
  • The study period lasted 6 months
  • Results show that children receiving zinc and multivitamins had significantly higher gain in height vs placebo taking children
