Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for the healthy function of our bodies and to enable enzymes to work. It is involved in 300 body functions. Sixty percent of the magnesium in our bodies is found in our bones, and about twenty-seven percent is found in the muscles. Good dietary sources of magnesium are dark leafy greens, nuts, beans and grains.
A severe deficiency of magnesium can hinder the body from absorbing vitamin D and calcium. The elderly, those who use diuretics or eat less than ideal amounts of protein and those suffering from diminished kidney or digestive function may have a tendency to magnesium deficiency, as well as those suffering from celiac or Chron's disease.
Deficiencies of magnesium have been related to increased cardiovascular disease, metabolism issues, diabetes (type II), bone loss (osteopenia and osteoporosis) and high blood pressure. Magnesium has been used to address asthma and migraines.
Malic Acid is a natural component of many foods that we eat daily, such as fruit. It has been found to promote relief of pain resulting from muscle soreness, such as from pain resulting from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. It normally has to be taken for several days (at least 48 hours) for pain reduction. Malic Acid is also a popular ingredient in cosmetic creams due to its ability to raise the pH of the skin, promote exfoliation, penetrate the skin for greater moisturizing effect and reduce pigmentation of the skin.
